a work-life of balance, alignment & fulfillment

Your work-life is the way in which your work fits into your life, and vice-versa; the way they influence one another and align, which can either nourish or deplete your overall feelings of happiness and fulfillment.

In today’s world more than ever, work and life are entirely connected. But they’re also separate - each with its own ambitions, hopes, fears and challenges - which deserve their own attention.

Within this, everybody’s idea of the perfect “work-life balance” is different. And in an era of choice and flexibility, we have an opportunity to create a work-life which is not only balanced, but in which your work and life can support one another to thrive.

Understanding your work-life needs to create balance, wellbeing, fulfillment and success.

your work-life needs

Creating your ideal work-life requires understanding your personal work-life needs. In particular, those needs for:

Safety & Security: the foundational elements of how the routine, environment, dynamics and structure of your work-life impacts your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. It can be affected by your working hours, pay structure, workplace or your relationship with stress, risk or uncertainty.

Connection and belonging: how your work-life provides you with the ability to feel connected to others, or as part of something greater than yourself, whether within or outside of your workplace. It can be affected by who you work with, team structures, or how your work allows you to connect with friends, family and relationships outside of work.

Purpose and growth: how you feel about the work you do, your motivation for it and how happy or fulfilled it makes you; based on your goals and how it aligns with your values. It’s impacted by how it gives you meaning or enjoyment in your work, or how it allows for, or detracts from it, in life.

Within these, your own personal needs may be different to those of others. For example, some will need structure, direction and certainty more than others, who may prioritise autonomy, freedom and flexibililty in their work-life.

But these needs exist in each of us to some degree. Your overall happiness, wellbeing and fulfillment will come from knowing what they are for you, personally, and how well you can align your work-life to them.
